Destruction Of Daksha's Sacrifice

Daksha was the son of Lord Brahma. He had a daughter named Sati who was a great devotee of Lord Shiva. She performed severe penances to make Lord Shiva her husband. Lord Shiva was pleased with her devotion and appeared before her. He granted her a boon. She said she wanted him to be her husband. Lord Shiva agreed. Soon both of them got married. One day, the Sages of Prayag were performing a grand yagna (sacrifice). Shiva and Sati attended this yagna. When Daksha arrived, everyone got up to greet him except Shiva as Lord Shiva is superior to him. But Daksha felt insulted and wanted to teach him a lesson. A few days later, Daksha held a grand sacrifice but did not invite both Sati and Shiva. When Sati got to know of this she felt offended. She went to her father's abode but he ignored her! She asked him why she and Shiva were not invited. Then Daksha started abusing Shiva, Sati could not tolerate these insults. In anger, she invoked the yogic flame and immolated herself. After this horrible incident, a huge fight ensued between Shiva's attendants and others present in the yagna. Shiva's attendants were defeated so they approached Shiva with the news of the death of Sati. Shiva was furious and plucked a cluster of his matted hair and dropped it on the ground. Two beings Virabhadra and Mahakali emerged from it. Both left for Daksha's sacrifice and again a huge battle took place. Virabhadra finally chopped the head of Daksha and threw it into the sacrificial fire. Then all the gods went to Shiva's abode and propitiated him. They asked to restore the life of Daksha. Shiva told he will but with the head of a goat. After restoring his life back, Daksha bowed down to Lord Shiva and asked Shiva for forgiveness. Shiva forgave him and Daksha completed the sacrifice.

Think Before You Curse

Once upon a time, Lord Shiva was explaining the Vedas to Goddess Parvati. This went on for many years and eventually Parvati's attention got a little diverted. This irritated Shiva and he cursed her to be born as a fisherwoman. He immediately repented after doing this. But, once a curse is uttered, it cannot be revoked. Hence, Parvati was born as a baby on earth and found lying under a tree by the Chief of Paravaras (A clan of fishermen). He adopted her and bought her up. She was a quick learner and learnt all the skills of fishermen. Soon, she was admired by all. Meanwhile, Lord Shiva was repenting in his abode. Nandi (his attendant) consoled him and came up with a plan. Shiva agreed. Nandi took the form of a shark and began to torment the village of the fishermen. Then, the Chief of the Paravaras told he would offer his daughter, Parvati to the person who captures the shark. Many fishermen tried to capture the shark, but to no avail. Then, finally when the Chief of Paravaras as...
