Ring Of Love

A few weeks later, Shakuntala became pregnant. When Sage Kanva returned to his hermitage, he heard a heavenly voice. The voice told him all that happened between Dushyant and Shakuntala and asked him to take care of Shakuntala and her child. Sage Kanva agreed to take care of her and blessed her with lovely clothes and jewelry. Immediately beautiful clothes and jewelry appeared in every branch of a tree. Shakuntala wore them and left for Dushyant's kingdom. On the way, she decided to take a dip in the river Ganga. At that time, she did not notice the ring which Dushyant gave fell into the river. Unaware of this she went to Hastinapur to meet King Dushyant. When she presented herself in front of him, he did not recognize her! She thought of showing the ring, but the ring was missing! Sage Durvasa's curse had worked! Dejected, she left the palace. Suddenly, there was a bright light and Shakuntala's mother, Menaka, appeared and carried her into the clouds. A few days later, a fisherman was surprised to find a royal ring in the belly of a fish. He took the ring to the king. As soon as he saw the ring, Dushyant remembered everything and asked him how he found the ring. The fisherman told him he found it inside the body of a fish. He gave a bag of gold to him as reward for great service. But Dushyant felt sad for sending away Shakunatala. A few years later, Lord Indra sent a messenger to Dushyant to help him fight the demons. After a victorious battle, he saw a child with Shakuntala. He was overjoyed at this sight! That child was none other than Bharata. (Ancestor of the Pandavas and Kauravas).

Think Before You Curse

Once upon a time, Lord Shiva was explaining the Vedas to Goddess Parvati. This went on for many years and eventually Parvati's attention got a little diverted. This irritated Shiva and he cursed her to be born as a fisherwoman. He immediately repented after doing this. But, once a curse is uttered, it cannot be revoked. Hence, Parvati was born as a baby on earth and found lying under a tree by the Chief of Paravaras (A clan of fishermen). He adopted her and bought her up. She was a quick learner and learnt all the skills of fishermen. Soon, she was admired by all. Meanwhile, Lord Shiva was repenting in his abode. Nandi (his attendant) consoled him and came up with a plan. Shiva agreed. Nandi took the form of a shark and began to torment the village of the fishermen. Then, the Chief of the Paravaras told he would offer his daughter, Parvati to the person who captures the shark. Many fishermen tried to capture the shark, but to no avail. Then, finally when the Chief of Paravaras as...
